Order of Omega
The Iota Omicron chapter of Order of Omega was established in 1989 and recognizes outstanding individuals who are members of a fraternal organization with membership reserved for the top 3% of Greek leaders at the University of Alberta. The Order of Omega hosts several events throughout the school year, including educational workshops, Greek Study Nights, and the annual Greek Formal and Awards Night.
The purpose of Order of Omega is:
- to recognize those fraternity men and women who have attained a high standard of leadership in inter-fraternity activities, to encourage them to continue along this line, and to inspire others to strive for similar conspicuous attainment.
- to unite outstanding fraternity men and women to create an organization which will help to mold the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate fraternity affairs.
- to bring together members of the faculty, alumni, and student members of the institution's fraternities and sororities on a basis of mutual interest, understanding and helpfulness.
- to help create an atmosphere where ideas and issues can be discussed openly across Greek lines and to help work out solutions.
Membership selection in Order of Omega happens once a semester during fall and winter. Applicants must be initiated members in Good Standing who have completed at least one year of studies at the University of Alberta and have a GPA greater than 3.00 in addition to involvements in extracurricular activities. There will be a one-time fee of $115 for successful applicants for Order of Omega membership, which includes a badge and certificate.
